Kimpton Kitalay is located on Choeng Mon beach of Koh Samui, the world-famous resort island in the southern part of Thailand. The concept is inspired by the site's topography which is set on a hill next to the beach to represent a fishing village lifestyle that is strongly bonded with the sea.

The resort is composed of one hundred and thirty-eight rooms both suites and villas, and four swimming pools, which have one main pool at the center of the layout. Normally, the layout of the swimming pool is oriented parallel to the ocean, which we found causes a limited view from the water’s edge. The design must increase the ocean view and make all visitors feel connected with the ocean wherever they are. We have proposed to orient the pool differently by placing it perpendicular to increase the length of the infinite edge to the ocean which has a more visual connection. Besides, the series of pools and ponds from villas and other functional buildings have been deliberately placed to ensure the ultimate visual linkage to the ocean.

]该度假村共设有 138 间客房（含套房与别墅），并配备 4 座泳池，其中 1 座主泳池位于整体布局的核心位置。通常情况下，泳池布局会采用与海洋平行的朝向，但我们发现这种设计会导致泳池岸边的观景视野受限。因此，本次设计必须扩大海景视野，确保游客无论身处何处，都能感受到与大海的联结。我们提出了一种差异化的泳池朝向方案，将主泳池设计为与海洋垂直的布局，以延长其 “无边界“边缘与大海的视觉衔接长度，从而营造更强的视觉联动感。此外，别墅及其他功能性建筑周边的一系列泳池与水景池，也经过精心布局以确保每一处都能实现与大海的极致视觉连通。

Therefore, connecting with the ocean in every aspect is the main concept of this resort. Water features and swimming pools are designed to support this idea, so the main pool orients toward the beach with an infinity edge merging with the sea. The existing trees which are Casuarina and Coconut trees became one of the feature trees used as a focal point toward the sea from the main lobby and main swimming pool. Visitors can fully enjoy the ocean view while relaxing in these pools.

“全方位与大海联结” 是该度假村的核心设计理念。水景设施与泳池的设计均围绕这一理念展开：主泳池朝向海滩，其无边界边缘与大海浑然一体；场地内原有的木麻黄树与椰子树被保留下来，成为标志性景观树 — 从主大堂和主泳池望向大海时，这些树木恰好构成视觉焦点。游客在泳池中放松休憩的同时，亦可尽情饱览无敌海景。
