FLORENTIA VILLAGE OUTLET VILLAGE - SHANGHAI- PROJECTDESCRIPTION
Choosing an outlet mall where to spend spare time isbecoming more and more a new approach to shopping and leisure. The new DesignerOutlet, about 38 km far from Shanghai city centre, 7 km to the Pudong Airport and9 km from Disneyland, shows the residents of the nearby areas the reasons whyembracing the outlet-philosophy.
The architectural design combines the need to meet thefunctional requirements of the customer and the finding of an architecturalstyle which is unique in China.
Shops and restaurants are part of an architecturalcontext which refers to the Italian tradition where the spaces are deeplycharacterized and differentiated to get away from the cold and anonymous stylethat nowadays makes often the malls not distinguishable one from each other.
The intention is to create a different reality: ashopping town away from the chaos, the noise and the traffic of the big city,where is possible to find comfort, relaxation and some good time.
Phase II of Florentia Village Outlet continues anddevelops this concept by adding a key architectural element, such as “ IlGiardino all’Italiana”, an open public square characterized by  water features, green areas and themonumental stairs which recall the magnificent architecture of Piazza di Spagnain Rome, made by real Travertino blocks imported from Italy
The expansion consists of approximately 26,000 sqm GFAwhich results in 110 shop units (retail shops, restaurants,  bars), 1 indoor Family Entertainment Center, 1vip lounge, 1 customer service point, 2 security rooms, 4 public toilets, 2 bigshop storages. Two underground car-parking floors can accommodate up to a maximumof 900 car spaces.
The layout has been studied in a way that all shopshave the same visibility, avoiding any black spot by placing some public functions(lift, toilets…) close to the less visible shop units. Several paths start fromthe squares and develop in streets, widenings, porches and galleries until theyfinally rejoin, accompanying the customer on an imaginary journey through themost beautiful Italian cities.
The choice of the architectural language is stronglyrelated to the Italian history: streets are surrounded by buildings which referto the elegant and harmonious mansions that characterize each represented city(Venice, Florence, Roma, Milano, Padua, Bologna), while spacious porchesaccompany us all along the visit. The paths are flexuous and createwell-differenced settings, nevertheless the pedestrian route is very simple andintuitive and never gives the customer the feeling of having lost his bearings.
The porches are a constant in Italian architecturaltradition. This is the reason why they have been provided almost everywhere,taking advantage of their function of protection from the climatic elements andof the consequent arising of volumes and shapes by playing with the alternationof light and shadow, empty and full.
As well as for the shapes and architecturalproportions, also the materials used are typical of the Italian old style, suchas antiqued roofing tiles, plasters painted with appropriate colors embellishedwith artistic features, moldings and decorative frames, marble balustrades andwrought iron artistic railings, high quality wood and cast iron streetfurniture. Everything is supported by innovative techniques andmaterials to improve the work in terms of construction, energyconservation and maintenance.
